Disa Primary School’s sixth annual awards ceremony lived up to expectations this week as teachers and parents celebrated pupils’ outstanding achievements in style.
Always a highlight on the Hout Bay schools’ calendar, staff were dressed to the nines for the occasion on Tuesday December 5, which also saw them paying tribute to Disa Primary’s first graduating Grade 7 class since the school opened in 2012.
As the sunlight streamed through the windows of the state-of-the-art facility, parents eagerly awaited their children taking the stage to receive awards and certificates for their hard work this year.
Every child from foundation phase to Grade 7 was applauded enthusiastically for their efforts, while teachers tasked with handing out the awards were warmly embraced.
In his funder’s address, Dr Andreas Strungmann honoured Disa’s first Grade 7 class.
“Today, we are looking at you with a sad eye because you are leaving us, but also with a proud eye because of what you have done at this school,” he said.
“When I look at the proud faces of the parents, we want to say thank you for supporting our teachers and that you have given your children the best education.”
Deputy principal and master of ceremonies, Alexander Molteno, said Disa’s vision was to be a school of excellence and the benchmark for all-round education.
“This day is one of the most important events on our calendar because it manifests this vision. The pupils are a credit to the school, and they are why Disa people do what they do. They are an example to us all.”
A delightful address by the school’s head girl, Siphosethu Ncube, brought the house down.
“After all our nagging, our teachers deserve our appreciation,” she said to rapturous applause. “Our teachers have done a fantastic job. I want to wish all our Grade 7s an extraordinary journey in high school. And to the parents, I want you to think of all the privileges and support we have received at Disa.”
The ceremony was also used to announce the school’s prefects for 2018 and scholarships
to attend some of Cape Town’s most prestigious high schools were also awarded.
