In an operation that lasted several hours, members of the National Sea Rescue Institute’s (NSRI) Station 3, successfully towed a whale carcass from the rocks at Bantry Bay, to the Oceana Boat Club at Granger Bay, on Valentine’s Day, Sunday February 14. About 8.5 meters in length and weighing 8 to 9 tons, the baby Southern Right whale washed up at Saunders Rock, which prompted a request for assistance from the Department of Environmental Affairs and the City of Cape Town to tow the carcass.
