It was a morning of inspirational talks and sweet treats at the Silvermist Mountain Lodge for a group of high school pupils from Imizamo Yethu attending Lalela’s Female Em-powerment Programme on Women’s Day.
The aim was to encourage young women to remain in school and learn how to develop confidence, excel in academics and go beyond what is expected of them.
The pupils were treated to the talks of various inspirational women such as actress and writer, Casey B Dolan who encouraged them to be true to themselves and not to be pressurised to look beautiful from the out- side but rather to let their beauty and strength shine from with- in.
While listening to the various talks, the pupils enjoyed tea, coffee, sandwiches and delicious sweet treats.
Tarsha Geduld, 14 said she was celebrating being a woman and the event made her feel special while Asanda Bikani, 14, said the talks have motivated her to be herself and to be a true woman.
Lindokuhle Voyi, 13, said she has become more aware of her rights as a woman and enjoyed the morning with fellow pupils. Ashley Kabataenga, 13, said the talks reminded her of the strong women who fought for freedom in the country and she felt inspired by the event.
