A 34-year-old man had a narrow escape when he was shot by a mugger in Empire Street, during an early morning jog on Wednesday May 1.
According to ER24’s Russel Meiring, the man ran into a nearby home after being shot. Paramedics had arrived on the scene at 6.55am.
The Hout Bay Community Policing Forum said in a Facebook post that the man had been shot in the lower back but “miraculously” had not been seriously injured.
The forum said there had been an alarming spate of robberies in the past few weeks and it had called on senior police and government officials to provide extra resources to the local police station.
The forum urged residents to stay alert while walking, jogging and cycling.
“Incidents have been reported in Hughenden, Harbour Heights and now in Beach Estate.”
Veronica Ron Moses, from Hangberg, said robberies were getting out of hand.
“It’s time to stand together and get rid of them. We don’t want criminals around our bay.”
Hout Bay police did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
