A Hout Bay police officer has been identified as one of the four suspects arrested for an armed robbery in Stellenbosch on Wednesday March 13.
The officer and his alleged accomplices, all between the ages of 30
and 40, are accused of robbing a petrol station store in Bird Street and holding the staff up at gunpoint.
The robbers attempted a getaway and fled with the cash in a
gold Toyota Avanza according to provincial police spokesman, Lietenant Colonel Andre Traut.
Stellenbosch police stopped the vehicle and arrested the four suspects.
Two 9mm firearms were confiscated, weapons that are regularly used by police officers, according to Western Cape police commissioner,Lieutenant-General Khombinkosi Jula.
He commended the Stellenbosch police officers for their vigilance and speedy response.
“I welcome the arrest of these perpetrators. The SAPS has no place for police officers who live a double life as criminals.”
The investigation is still ongoing.
