City of Cape Town firefighters are battling a massive fire in Imizamo Yethu this afternoon with several structures on fire.
Cape Town Fire and Rescue spokesperson Theo Layne said, “The City’s fire services responded to Chris Hani Road in Imizamo Yethu in the Hout Bay area where they are currently dealing with three formal structures and numerous informal structures.”
Four fire engines, one water tanker and one rescue vehicle with 24 firefighters are currently on the scene.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
Last year between 10 000 and 15 000 Imizamo Yethu residents were displaced and four people died when fires ravaged the informal settlement on Saturday March 11.
