Police are on the hunt for the hijackers who killed a Mandela Park man on Monday.
By the time this story was published, they had not released his name to the media as his family had yet to be informed about his death.
Police were alerted to the shooting in Molokwane Street, at about 6am, and when police arrived on the scene, said Hout Bay police spokeswoman, Sergeant Pholelwa Njara, they found a man with a single gunshot wound to the head.
According to witness reports, the man had been crossing the road, heading towards his vehicle when he was ambushed by two men, one of whom pulled a gun on him.
The unarmed suspect grabbed the keys, jumped into the driver’s side and the armed suspect is alleged to have shot the man before they sped off.
“The vehicle was recovered in the Nyanga area with the false registration number plates and the disc was removed,” Sergeant Njara said.
She confirmed that one suspect had been arrested when the car was recovered and had been charged with the possession of a hijacked vehicle.
“The one suspect who was driving the vehicle that time was arrested,” Sergeant Njara said.
Hout Bay police are also investigating a case of murder.
