Fresh crews will be dispatched to battle the fire currently burning in the vicinity of Ruyteplaats and Suikerbossie.
However, high winds and heavy cloud cover on Saturday October 14 have meant that three helicopters tasked with dousing the flames remain grounded.
According to the City’s Fire Services there are no evacuations currently required.
Table Mountain National Park fire manager Philip Prins said the fire had crested the ridge below Ruyteplaats overnight, and was currently centred in the Orange Kloof area. It was also within range of Disa Gorge.
“Our crews are stationed at Ring Road, and unfortunately we can’t dispatch the helicopters because of the weather. We are monitoring the situation,” Mr Prins said.
Volunteer Wildlife Services crews have been deployed, together with firefighters from City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services, NCC Environmental Services, Enviro Wildfire Services and Working on Fire.
“Last night our main concern was ensuring that the fire did not jump Victoria Drive,” Mr Prins said.
