Hout Bay International School donated over 540 pairs of school shoes to various families last term for Barefoot Day, on June 1. On Monday June 10, NGO Help the Rural Child collected the shoes on behalf of the Goedgedacht Trust, who will be distributing the shoes to 300 school children in need.Â
National Go Barefoot Day was created by the people at Soles4Souls. The holiday started after the Tsunami disaster in 2004 to support those affected by the event. Since then, donations have continued to come in and over 19 millions of pairs of shoes have been donated worldwide since 2005.
