Llandudno Primary School has collected some 200 items of warm clothing and blankets for the needy in Imizamo Yethu.
The donations were handed over to one of the school’s parents, Nadine Spencer-Derman, who is a member of St Peter’s Church soup kitchen.
She said that the donations had been enthusiastically received.
“The hot soups and peanut butter and polony sandwiches given out here each week have always been appreciated, but these winter clothing gifts were a real bonus and a blessing,” she said.
Denise Erasmus, the school’s principal, said the pupils had made a worthwhile contribution that had helped them realise the needs of those less fortunate.
“As a South African school with a long tradition of caring, we will always do what we can for those who are less fortunate than ourselves,” she said.
Anyone who would like to contribute clothes and/or blankets should contact the St Peter’s Church soup kitchen co-ordinator, Tim Cartwright, at 083 443 5534.
