The Hout Bay partnership (HBP) is launching the Showcasing Local Hout Bay programme, a micro tourism business opportunity, and is calling on locals to apply.
The purpose of the programme is to support up-and-coming local tourism entrepreneurs to develop visitor experiences in Hout Bay that can be promoted and sold.
Concepts should take the form of a tourist experience such as a guided walk, food experience, or cultural experience in Hout Bay.
The applicant must be local and no infrastructure projects will be supported. Participants should have some experience in tourism, although no formal qualification is required. Applicants should be able to converse in English.
The programme will award two enterprises a support package worth R50 000 each.
The Hout Bay Partnership and Open Africa will support the winners with mentorship, marketing and networking to help kick-start the business.
The programme is funded by the Hout Bay Partnership, a non-profit organisation which aims to harness talent and goodwill to address Hout Bay’s social and economic challenges to contribute to a better, more inclusive and more integrated future for all.
Prospective participants will submit a brief application form, and shortlisted candidates will then be asked to pitch their business ideas to a panel of experts.
The programme takes the format of a challenge where participants will have to make presentations and refine their ideas.
Experts will give feedback before two business concepts are selected for mentorship and marketing.
Applicants are asked to attend a compulsory briefing session at the Hout Bay Partnership offices, upstairs from the Bay Harbour Market, 31 Harbour Road, on Tuesday October 25, from 6pm to 7pm, to review the application and have any questions answered.
Completed applications should be sent to info@houtbaypartnership.co.za or dropped at the office by Tuesday November 1 . For more information, call Ashley Newell on 072 855 1371 or email her at ashley@houtbaypartnership.co.za
