Community art group Intle Art will hold its second art exhibition at the Workspace in the Hout Bay Harbour tomorrow Saturday August 5.
The two-year-old organisation comprises mostly teenage boys from Imizamo Yethu, Hangberg and the Valley.
“Many of these children come from challenging circumstances and have been affected by fires, evacuations, riots.
You’d never say that though, seeing the art they produce and getting to know the divine youngsters they are,” said Intle Art’s Shelley Webb.
“Importantly, and in the spirit of all the efforts around Mandela Day, they’ve forged friendships that cross communities and are quietly, and in their own ways, learning the valuable lesson that volunteering time to a cause is not about arriving to bestow one’s well-intended but arrogant benevolence upon ‘the poor’ but rather to consistently invest time, engage in shared passions, and to understand and learn from each other towards a common beneficial goal.”
The students will be presenting the artwork they’ve been working on over the past year. All pieces will be available for purchase and all proceeds will be fed back into the art club for supplies as well as an amount to each of the students involved.
“Our most amazing collaborative art piece, entitled Hope, will be available to bid on via silent auction. Bids will open at 10.30am on Saturday and end at 5pm.
“We will have refreshments and music to keep you entertained so please pop along to see the art groups work,” Ms Webb said.
