The band Van Der Aven will perform on Saturday September 30 at Alma Cafe, in Rosebank, at 6.30pm for 7pm. Theunis van der Merwe, Roelof van der Merwe and Paul Avenant, pictured, have been making music and sharing stories since late 2016. The three members are all originally from the Great Karoo (Beaufort West and Murraysburg), and their raw acoustic sound is primarily influenced by it. Together they combine their three-part vocals and a multitude of instruments, including guitar, ukulele, bass, harmonica and drums to create upbeat music with lyrics that always tell a story. Tickets cost R150. Email bookings@almacafe.co.za to book. They will also perform at Lente fees in Franschhoek with Spoegwolf and others on Sunday October 1; at the Stellenbosch Craft Beer Festival on Saturday October 7; and at Woordfees: Uit Volle Bosch with Heuwels Fantasties and others on Friday October 13 and Woordfees: Band or Bust finals on Saturday October 14.
