Opening cruise…

Hout Bay Yacht Club’ opening cruise on Sunday October 4 was a fun day on the water for family and friends.

The goal was to get everything that floats to parade in the bay near Mariners Wharf.

The opening cruise started with a “salute” to the commodore who was on a yacht moored at the buoy near Mariners Wharf.

People enjoyed the festivities either from the water or from the shore to watch the sail past of the yachts together with the newly created Hunter 19 fleet.

The theme for the opening cruise was Mask-A-Rade. The opening cruise for Hout Bay Yacht Club, like all other yacht clubs around the world, has many traditions… like “dressing overall” which meant a long string of signal flags on yachts from the bow to the top of the mast and down to the stern.

Prizes were awarded to the best-dressed floating vessel and crew and afterwards the festivities continued at the newly-revamped yacht club. For more information about Hout Bay Yacht Club, click here.
