National women’s rugby team captain, Babalwa “Beast” Latsha, from Khayelitsha, became the first South African women’s rugby player to sign an overseas professional contract when she recently joined Spanish side SD Eibar Feminino rugby club. The 25-year-old will also lead the national team to the 2021 world cup, to be played in New Zealand. A product of South African Rugby Legends Association’s (SARLA) Vuka development programme, Latsha has also represented WP and South Africa at both Sevens and 15-a-side formats. She left for Spain last week.
