The Jazz Masters Series will take place at the Artscape from Thursday September 27 to Saturday September 29.
The theatre has chosen a combination of bands and musicians for the series, which will be directed by Craig Parks.
Each night will have a theme and will include original music by individual performers as well as the works of well-known South African composers.
There will be a variety of jazz styles, from Big Band, Straight-Ahead, African and South African contemporary to mainstream.
Thursday September 27 will be dedicated to Masterful Women in Jazz with vocalist Lana Crowster and her Lady Day Big Band, featuring composer Kelly Bell on trombone and Amanda Tiffin as music director. The Lady Day Big Band is South Africa’s first all-female big band, consisting entirely of professional women musicians.
On Friday September 28 a platform will be given to the Young Masters of Jazz and features Mandisi Dyantyis, while on Saturday September 29, Alvin Dyers will be among the Cape Town Living Legends.
Performances start at 7.30pm.
