The City of Cape Town has been chosen as the preferred host city for the 2023 Netball World Cup.
It will be the first time that the largest women’s sporting event in the world will be hosted on African soil.
The announcement was made by the president of the International Netball Federation, Molly Rhone, at the Cape Town International Convention Centre yesterday.
Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, said: “Securing the Netball World Cup will also aid the country in promoting women’s sports and raising the profile of netball as a key sport. We would like to thank our inter-governmental partners for the support along the way.”
All the games will be played in the city. The competition is expected to bring in at least R2 billion in revenue into the local and national economy.
