The body of a woman who went missing on the mountains above Hout Bay on Monday night was recovered earlier today, Tuesday December 12.
According to Wilderness Search and Rescue’s (WSAR) Johan Marais, WSAR began the search for the married woman last night after “three separate reports of a shouting woman came in”.
WSAR had been in contact with the woman’s husband, who assisted them with the search from Rocket Road.
The search had to be called off late last night due to high winds.
However, shortly after 1pm today Mr Marais said the woman’s body was found in the vicinity of the mountain above Hout Bay.
Our rescuers packaged the body and because of the dangerous slopes Skymed was authorised to hoist the body out. The rescuers have also been extracted.”
SAPS Hout Bay have taken over the investigation because it was ruled an “unnatural death”.
“Our condolences to the family involved. We would once again urge people to always hike in a group, always take a phone and a map. If you get lost, stay where you are. WSAR will come and get you.”
