Wear a flower crown on Garden Day

Sunday October 20 is Garden Day and South Africans are encouraged to wear a flower crown and celebrate the day, surrounded by nature, with neighbours, family and friends.

This year, Marina da Gama resident and food activist, Zayaan Khan, will be a flower-crown ambassador.

Garden Day was created by Candide, a gardening app that connects gardeners with fellow plant lovers, public gardens and plant nurseries. Candide provides information on plants, plant identification and growing tips.

Professor Nox Makunga, a plant scientist at the Department of Botany and Zoology at Stellenbosch University, says there are dozens of studies globally that have looked into how gardening affects your health and there’s only one conclusion: gardening is incredibly good for you.
