A man wanted by police leapt into the water at Hout Bay Harbour on Wednesday as officers tried to apprehend him.
According to Hout Bay police spokeswoman, Warrant Officer Tanya Lesch, the man jumped into the water near the slipway after officers patrolling the harbour spotted him.
But when the man eventually came out of the water he no longer had the backpack he had been carrying. “SAPS divers came to assist in the search and found a handgun in the ocean near to where the suspect jumped into the water. The serial number on the 9mm was filed off. Thirteen rounds and a magazine were also handed in as evidence,” said Warrant Officer Lesch. She said the man was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Police believe he is also linked to other cases including an armed robbery.
