Ten runners will be taking part in this year’s Two Oceans Marathon to raise funds for Hout Bay NGO Sakhisizwe youth development programme.
Sakhisizwe offers mentorship and leadership support to young people between the ages of 13 and 25 in Imizamo Yethu through an aftercare programme that offers academic support, healthy living through sport, life skills, spiritual journey and creativity.
Runners from the Imizamo Yethu marshals, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Hout Bay, formed a running club in 2016. These marshals do duty at the Cape Town Cycle Tour, Two Oceans Marathon and the Cape Town Marathon.
The club has senior and junior runners who are parents and students at Sakhisizwe.
They will be joined in this year’s Two Oceans, which takes place over the Easter weekend, by several members of the Hout Bay community, who will assist them in raising funds for the organisation. “We are calling on the Hout Bay community to support us by backing a runner to the tune of R50 or more for the 21km race. All funds will go towards our operation costs,” said Sakhisizwe’s Mhinti Pato.
The runners have been running three times a week in preparation for the event.
