Rivonia trialist and Hout Bay resident Denis Goldberg will be honoured at a special celebration to mark his 85th birthday next weekend.
Facing lung cancer – an enemy even more implacable than the four consecutive life sentences that he received in 1964 – Mr Goldberg is building a centre for the arts, the House of Hope, in Hout Bay (“Goldberg secures the future”, Sentinel News, November 24 2017).
The birthday celebration, taking place at the Hugo Lambrechts Auditorium in Parow, on Sunday April 15, is doubling as a fund-raiser for the Denis Goldberg Legacy Foundation fund for the House of Hope. Invited guests include President Cyril Ramaphosa, Minister of Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa, Western Cape Premier Helen Zille and Western Cape MEC for Culture and Sport Anroux Marais. Artists include the Tygerberg Children’s Choir, Dizu Plaatjies, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Mathijs van Dijk, Two Pianists Duo, The Kronendal Music Academy of Hout Bay, students and teachers from Cape Town and Stellenbosch universities as well as the Folkwang University of the Arts, Germany.
Tickets are R200 each (pensioners and students pay R120).
Tickets are limited and booking is essential. For tickets, contact Zena Jacobs zena@sun.ac.za or contact her on 072 685 5968.
