The new partnership between the Hout Bay International School and Hout Bay High School was strengthened as the Hangberg-based school received a new honours board and school stationery sets at a special assembly this week.

The partnership between the schools was announced earlier this year, with the International School pledging to help Hout Bay High with school equipment, mentoring programmes and other amenities through donations and fund-raising projects.

The amphitheatre at Hout Bay High was filled to capacity as representatives from the International School, including principal Grant Ruskovich and head pupil Sibongile Mrubata, handed over the honours board and stationery on Monday October 31.

Hout Bay High principal Juan Julius said the honours board was a “dream come true” for the school.

“The Hout Bay International School has made it possible for us to have this beautiful board. It will not only honour pupils in Grade 12, but also those in Grades 8, 9, 10 and 11,” he said. “We will be looking to keep this partnership going for as long as we can.”

Mr Ruskovich said his school had been looking at ways to partner with Hout Bay High for many years. “We are committed to helping you,” he assured pupils. “This has nothing to do with the colour of your skin, or what economic background you come from.

“We hope that having your name on the board
will be a way of incen-
tivising you to do well at school.”

He also paid tribute to his Hout Bay High coun-
terpart. “In Mr Julius, you have a very special person,
and the staff at your school are hardworking and
always do their best. As a school, we don’t want to be people who you see once-off. We hope that our part-
nership will continue to grow.”

Taking the podium, Sibongile took the opportunity to wish his peers
the best of luck for the exams.
