One hundred food parcels were donated during a door-to-door delivery in Westlake on Friday October 9.
As part of SANParks’ response to Covid-19, the food parcels were organised and distributed by the Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) staff and the park’s Honorary Ranger corps.
Westlake United Church Trust staff helped them to identify those who needed the food the most.
Another 50 food parcels were donated to a non-profit organisation, Where Rainbows Meet in Capricorn. Veloshni Baker, from the Westlake United Church Trust, thanked SANParks for the donations.
SANParks has previously donated food parcels in Hangberg and Imizamo Yethu.
Wendy Johnson, from SANParks, said the initiative had started in May with more than 500 food parcels donated to vulnerable communities bordering the park. “SANParks intends to make a difference in the lives of households who are in desperate need of assistance during the Covid-19 pandemic as many people have lost their income through this pandemic,” she said.
The food parcels contained sugar, flour, yeast, cooking oil, tinned foods and other basic food items.
