Sixty pensioners were treated to a three-course Christmas lunch at the Iziko Lombomi community centre in Imizamo Yethu last week.
Organised by the Rotary Club of Hout Bay and the Lions Club of Hout Bay, the seniors relished the chance to chat over their meals, and marked the occasion with dancing and singing.
The DA’s Hout Bay branch also bought Christmas cakes for the seniors.
Ward councillor Roberto Quintas, who donned a Christmas hat for the occasion, paid tribute to residents Miriam Mdoda and Rachel Tole from the Monwabisi Seniors’ Club for their continued efforts to take care of Imizamo Yethu’s seniors.
He also thanked Rotary’s Joelle Searle and Lions’ Liz Huckle for their organisations’ contributions to the annual event. “This year hasn’t been easy. The fires sent shockwaves through the community. We are aware of the need to move housing projects along quickly, and we will be doing our best to do so.
“May we have God’s blessings over the Christmas holidays,” Mr Quintas said.
“We want to have events such as this three or four times a year in the future, and we will be assisting our elderly with support in the coming year.”
