Pupils ready to compete in science competition

The Club Electron Primary School Science (CEPSS) competition was launched at Llandudno Primary during the school’s “Science Explosion” programme recently.

The CEPSS is a competition for primary school children to explore the sciences, and it is hosted by Llandudno Primary. The children do a project, which involves solving a real-world problem, and display their findings.

The aim is to get children excited about asking questions and solving problems in a scientific way.

This year’s topic is “water”, a subject close to the hearts of everyone in the Western Cape at the mo-
ment.

What makes the CEPSS competition different is that it is only for primary school children; it focuses on innovation, rather than scientific methodology; and the topic is decided annually, narrowing the field and making it easier for children to come up with an idea.

Only Hout Bay schools have been invited to participate in this, the inaugural competition,

The competition date is Thursday September 21, so children have roughly two terms to get their ideas finalised and ready for implementation.

There will be an information session at Llandudno Primary School in the first week of May, and this
will involve a workshop in which teachers and mentors will be taught how to manage the project at their school.
