Two meetings to discuss the second phase of the Hangberg housing project will be held in the coming weeks, says the City.
The City has appointed consultants to assess the development possibilities of identified sites in Hangberg for phase 2 of a housing project there (“City appoints consultants for Hangberg housing,“ Sentinel, February 23).
Hangberg residents have complained that they have waited for a decade for the housing project to get off the ground and want the City to give them a fixed date for its commencement (“Residents demand answers on Hangberg housing,” Sentinel, February 16).
The meetings are scheduled for later this month and sometime in October, according to mayoral committee member for human settlements Carl Pophaim.
“A project steering committee meeting was held on Friday August 30 to discuss the feasibility assessments. A follow-up meeting is scheduled for later in this month and a proposed public meeting is scheduled to take place in October,” Mr Pophaim said.
Community activist and project steering committee member Roscoe Jacobs confirmed a meeting was held in August but declined to comment further.
The City could not confirm the venue and dates for the meetings when Sentinel enquired.
Ward councillor Roberto Quintas was asked if could provide an update for beneficiaries on the housing project’s delay, but he could not provide a response before the time of publication.
