Two members of Hout Bay-based NOP Lalela, facilitator and former student Siyolisi Bani and Grade 11 Hout Bay High pupil Nikita Albertyn, with the support of SAA, accompanied Lalela’s events and relations manager Oliver Nurock to New York for its annual Lalela gala fund-raiser.
For Siyolisi and Nikita, it was an unforgettable week filled with walking Central Park and lunching at the Chelsea Market, visiting the Guggenheim Museum and The Museum of Modern Art, attending live performances of The Blue Man Group and The Lion King on Broadway, experiencing Times Square as well as “The Beast”, a high speed high energy boat ride around the Statue of Liberty and the southern tip of Manhattan.
They also attended an inspirational presentation by Deepak Chopra, toured Manhattan in an open air red top bus and were honoured guests at the fund-raiser at the Chelsea Piers, where they were interviewed in a Q&A session by Lalela founder and chief executive Andrea Kerzner.
The gala evening was also the launch of Lalela’s latest video, with the decor featuring Lalela art-
works and a unique township set created for the occasion.
