The theme of the annual Reconciliation Day Interfaith Walk on Friday December 16 (Reconciliation Day) will be “Restitution and District Six”.
The walk is from 9am to 11am and participants are asked to meet at St Mark’s Church in District Six (off Keizergracht at the top of St Mark’s Street) at 8.50am.
The route will be from there to the Al Azhar Mosque, then along Chapel Street, taking in several historic sites, up Searle Street and back along Keizersgracht on either side of which is empty land, with addresses from speakers at each stop.
Speakers will be retired judge Essa Moosa, Nomvula Dlamini, director of the Community Development Resource Association and Horst Kleinschmidt, past director of International Defence and Aid Fund.
The walk is supported by St Mark’s Church, Al Azhar Masjid, District Six Museum, District Six Working Committee, St Phillip’s Church, Chapel Street Primary School, the Cape Town Interfaith Initiative, the Centre for Christian Spiriuality, Masibuyisane, Afosa and Holy Cross Church.
