Police have arrested the ex-boyfriend of an Imizamo Yethu woman who was stabbed to death at the weekend.
On Sunday September 19, at about 5pm, Hout Bay police received a complaint of a stabbing at Cottage House in Main Road, Imizamo Yethu.
A 25-year-old woman, known as Patrice Masula, was stabbed multiple times, allegedly by her ex-boyfriend, said Hout Bay police station commander Lieutenant Colonel Jerome Syster.
“The victim was transported to Victoria Hospital and later succumbed to her injuries,” Lieutenant Colonel Syster said.
The suspect is believed to have stabbed himself in the stomach and was also transported to Victoria Hospital.
Lieutenant Colonel Syster said the man had been arrested and was under police guard. A murder case has been opened.
Community leader Kenny Tokwe said he was still busy gathering information about the incident, but it appeared that after the couple had split up, the man had returned and there had been a row.
“It is very concerning, and I am still looking into the case from my side,” he said.
A woman in the neighbourhood, who did not want to give her name, said: “There are many women around these parts going through challenges of their own, but they are too afraid to speak, because they are not protected.”
