High praise from public on dagga ruling

Dagga or marijuana is now legal for private use in South Africa, following a ruling by the Constitutional Court on Tuesday September 18.

The historic ruling declared it unlawful for police to arrest an adult for using or growing cannabis in a private space.

Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, who delivered the unanimous verdict, said Parliament now has 24 months to repeal laws that banned smoking and cultivation of dagga in private homes.

Following the ruling, members of the public took to social networks to share their views using memes.
