Residents from the Berg en Dal Estate in Hout Bay have donated more than 100kg of groceries to Hangberg pensioner Vivinia Wichman’s soup kitchen.
Ms Wichman, 70, had appealed to the public to support her efforts to feed needy children in the area (“Hangberg woman needs help with soup kitchen,” Sentinel, February 9).
“After we had read the Sentinel article about Mrs Wichman’s soup kitchen, the trustees of the Berg en Dal Estate launched an appeal to all our residents for support,” said the estate’s chairman, Janssen Davies.
“I was pleased to see that we residents managed to collect and donate more than 100kg of groceries for Ms Wichman, which we delivered to her on Wednesday February 28. Our homeowners donated a wide range of foodstuffs from rice and pasta to herbs, spices, sugar, tinned food, etc.”
Ms Wichman also received a cheque for an undisclosed amount to help her buy more groceries.
Ms Wichman said she was thrilled to receive the donations.
“From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank each and everyone who donated and for making this possible. It’s much appreciated and may God bless you and your families abundantly,” she said.
However, Ms Wichman is still looking for consistent sponsorship to support the growing demand among the community’s needy.
