A fire ripped through parts of the Imizamo Yethu informal settlement in Hout Bay on Monday January 6.
At around 2.30pm, 29 staff and six vehicles from the City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Services responded to the call in Goniwe Street and extinguished the blaze by just after 4pm.
Spokesperson for the City’s Fire and Rescue Services, Jermaine Carelse, confirmed that no fatalities or injuries had been reported. “The first arriving fire crews from Hout Bay encountered several structures well alight and called upon more resources,” he said.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
