The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has announced that all learners licences, driving licence cards, temporary driving licences and professional driving permits that expired from Thursday March 26 up to Monday August 31 are extended to 31 January 2021.

The extensions are due to the lockdown and traffic offices working with limited staff due to the pandemic.

However, all vehicle licence discs, temporary permits and roadworthy certificates that expired between Thursday March 26 and Sunday May 31 will still only be valid until Monday August 31.

The City of Cape Town has welcomed the additional driving license extensions.

Mayoral committee member for safety and security, JP Smith, said: “The weekend operations will remain in place for the foreseeable future – at least until the demand for the services at the DLTCs stabilises.”
