Community leaders’ homes torched in protests

The homes of two Imizamo Yethu community leaders were torched in protests earlier today.

Police also fired rubber bullets and stun grenades after protesters threw petrol bombs and stones at officers.

Some residents took exception to the removal of illegally erected shacks in Dontsa Yakhe by the City. This was in line with a court order in June for the shacks to be demolished as part of the City’s superblocking process. Photographer PETER MICHAELS was on the scene.
