Anthea Cooper, left, and her daughter, Heather Holtman, have introduced a winter wool-donation drive at Fiddlesticks Haberdashery. Customers can drop off leftover bits of wool in a designated basket at Shop 4, Red Sails, Main Road, Hout Bay, ensuring that no strand goes to waste. These leftovers are then available for others who wish to knit beanies or teddies for various charitable causes. To ensure fairness and prevent one person from taking all the wool, they are asking those who participate to pay R2 or R20 for whatever they take. These funds are then donated to a different charity each month. People can also drop off their clean soft plastic for the Re.Bag.Re.Use initiative which supports women who use the plastic to crochet multifunctional products. On Mandela Day, Tuesday July 18, the shop is hosting a knit-in for 67 minutes. All the scarves and beanies knitted will be donated to a charity. For more information, contact 021 790 2920.
