Friends of the River were joined on Saturday by residents, mayor Dan Plato, mayoral committee member for water and waste services Xanthea Limberg and the Hout Bay River Catchment in Hout Bay on a clean-up of the river from Milner and Manchester roads, up until the site of the Butterfly Park. They picked up litter, pulled out invasive species and discussed the interest group’s wishes for the establishment of a biodiversity area for Hout Bay with the City of Cape Town’s assistance and resources. There was also an opportunity to plant a Cape peach tree, which is ideal caterpillar food for butterflies.
