Twenty children with serious illnesses went on a joyride in classic and super cars from Hout Bay to Maiden’s Cove and back on Sunday. The event was run by the SuperKids Trust, a non-profit based in Johannesburg that supports critically ill children. Brad Ainge said he started the initiative because of his own battle with a life threatening illness that saw him undergo chemotherapy at the ages of 9, 17 and 21. “Cars were my motivation to get better because one day I wanted to own one. We also raise funds through the super car community to assist South African paediatric cancer research projects,” he said. The cars were sponsored by private owners, Modern Classic Collective and The Archive. The children and their parents were treated to pizza and rainbow cake at the Deus Cafe after their drive along with a gift-filled backpack.Twenty-four super cars, including an Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Porsche, Ford Mustangs, Audi R8’s and Ferraris and rare BMW M models escorted the children on their ride.
