The Western Cape Choral Music Association (WeCCMA) 2016 Choral Music Eisteddfod festival kicks off the Heritage Month festivities on Sunday September 4, at 10am. This is one of WeCCMA’s most prestigeous events and will be presented for the 23rd time in partnership with Artscape Theatre and the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport. This year’s concert will feature three separate categories; developing, senior and premier choirs, which will be performing a selection of classical and African prescribed compositions. Newly established choirs competing in the Developing Section this year include George Chorale (Southern Cape), Mossel Bay Harmony Voices (Southern Cape), the Ntirisano Arts Academy Choir and Phillipi Voices of Joy. The Senior Section will include performances by Phenomenal Opera Voices, the UCT Choir for Africa, the Transnet Engineering Choir, The Chorus, Western Classical Voices and Voices of the Cape while the Premier Section, for established choirs with more than 50 members, will see Heavenly Voices, the UWC Creative Arts Choir, Simon Estes Alumni, United Chorale Artist and Western Chorale take to the stage. Choirs in the Senior Selection will perform African (indigenous) compositions while the Premier Selection will sing renditions of western songs circa 1750 to 1820.
