Chapman’s Peak closed

There have been significant rockfalls on the Noordhoek end of Chapmans Peak.

Chapman’s Peak Drive is expected to be closed for three to four weeks after rockfalls on the Noordhoek end damaged the road and two catch fences.

Department of Transport and Public Works spokesman Byron la Hoe, said engineers had assessed the damage. “Motorists can expect intermittent road closures on Chapman’s Peak Drive this winter whenever high-risk weather conditions make the road unsafe. The area is very exposed to strong winds, and there is a high risk of rockfalls and mudslides down the steep mountain slopes.”

Motorists should use Ou Kaapseweg when Chapman’s Peak Drive is closed.
