Proceeds from the sale of the Maiden Hout Bay – 2017 calendar, featuring 12 Hout Bay residents posing alongside well-known landmarks such as the harbour, beach and fort, were handed over the the Domestic Animal Rescue Group (DARG) and Community Cohesion at the Grill Under the Milkwood restaurant last week.
Photographed by Hout Bay lensman John Maarschalk, the calendar was conceptualised by resident Brenda Riddell as a way to raise money for local charities.
With accompanying artwork by Mark Bolten, each of the women gave a brief insight on why exactly they love Hout Bay.
DARG and non-profit Community Cohesion were named as beneficiaries, and each received R21 310 at a hand-over ceremony last Friday.
“We are thrilled to have been selected as a beneficiary of this project and at the incredible result. This funding could not have come at a better time what with the extra expenses incurred over the last two months after the fire. Thank you to the Maidens for your extraordinary efforts to support the people and animals of Hout Bay,” said DARG fund-raiser Debra Buys.
Community Cohesion director Bronwyn Moore said: “As we always say at Community Cohesion when something good happens, it’s ‘groovy’. And this donation was very, very groovy.”
Ms Riddell said the Maidens had been unable to raise as much as they wanted to, but were still pleased to be able to assist the organisa-
tions.
“I personally think the calendar came out too late, and there were also other calendars that came out at the same time as Maiden Hout Bay,” she said.
