Hout Bay police have asked guest house and bed and breakfast owners to inform their visitors, especially those from foreign countries, about being vigilant of crime.
“Many cases have been reported where visitors become victims of crime,” said police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Tanya Lesch.
“Victims are robbed for their belongings and are sometimes even attacked violently.
“Visitors are not fully informed that it is not safe to walk in a deserted or badly lit area like small alleyways on the way to the beach and beach area.
“Valuables should not be visible or carried in public places,” she said.
