Hout Bay residents came out in their numbers on Friday April 7 to voice their disapproval of President Jacob Zuma, following his cabinet reshuffle last week. The rand has plummeted against the dollar and other currencies after two ratings agencies downgraded South Africa’s credit rating to junk status. High winds initially threatened to keep protesters off the streets, but by 11am hundreds of people lined Victoria Avenue and Victoria Road, brandishing placards calling for the president to step down. A large number of Hout Bay retail outlets also closed their doors for several hours in protest of Mr Zuma’s leadership. Sentinel reporter JOHN HARVEY was there to capture the scenes.
