The Upton Shield is an annual hiking and scouting skills competition for junior scouts.

It was held this year at the Hawequas Scout Ranch in Wellington on Sunday May 13. Sixty-eight teams of scouts from all over the Western Cape took part, with the winning team hailing from 2nd Hout Bay Sea Scouts.

Three teams from Hout Bay competed this year, with two junior teams heading out for the first time to get some experience and find out how much they know and how big competitions work.

Catherine Williams, assistant troop scouter for 2nd Hout Bay Sea Scouts, said: “Congratulations go out to all teams from the region who competed on Mother’s Day. It was a wonderful day out and fabulous to see so many young scouts out and about putting what they have learned in meetings in practice.”
