The Artscape Youth Jazz Festival, including the audition process, will be held online this year.
Aspiring participants have until Friday July 10 to submit audition videos.
Those selected will be mentored by a group of jazz musicians led by musical director Amanda Tiffin and will
take part in a week-long masterclass online.
Jazz lovers around the world will be able to watch their live performances during the festival in October on social media platforms for free.
Says Artscape CEO, Marlene le Roux: “Since the Youth Jazz Festival was established the focus of the programme has remained dedicated to providing skills development within the jazz genre to foster the investment of cultural democratisation of our country. The Youth Jazz Festival is a stepping-stone that provides opportunities and access to significant role-players in the industry. Artscape is honoured to present these young musicians.”
Those entering must be under 27 years old, can be pupils or informal music students, and must live in the Western Cape. Music literacy is not essential and musicians who only play by ear can apply.
Candidates must submit two songs and any jazz tune or standard will be accepted.
