* Rising young stars of the Cape Town City Ballet are set to take centre stage in the classic and comic ballet, Coppélia, at Artscape from Wednesday May 25 to Sunday May 29. True love triumphs in this enchanting fairytale, which features three main characters – the young Franz, his fiancée Swanilda and the mysterious doll-maker, Dr Coppelius, who creates the life-like doll, Coppélia. Believing the doll is a real person, Franz becomes infatuated with her, which most definitely does not meet with Swanilda’s approval. This leads to all kinds of hilarious situations and culminates in a happily-ever-after wedding scene. Tickets are available at Computicket or Artscape Dial-a-Seat on 021 421 7695. Tickets for performances with pre-recorded music are R50 and performances with a live orchestra range from R110 to R160, with discounts for Friends of Cape Town City Ballet, pensioners, students and pupils, as well as block bookings for groups of 10 or more. Pictured is Cleo Ames in the role of Swanilda. Two readers of Sentinel can each win a set of double tickets to the matinee performance on Saturday May 28 at 2pm. All you have to do to stand in line to win is SMS your contact details and SNDoll to 34445. SMSes cost R1.50. Lines are open and close on Sunday May 23 at midnight. Winners will be notified telephonically.
