Piano recital

Kate Liu’s debut album of works by Chopin was released on the Fryderyk Chopin Institute label in 2016.

Pianist Kate Liu will give one recital in South Africa on Friday September 23 at the Baxter Concert Hall, at 7pm.

She will perform Schumann Arabesque in C, Sonatas by Prokofiev (No. 8) and Beethoven (Op. 110), two Nocturnes by Chopin (Op, 27, Nos 1 and 2) and Ballade No.1 by Chopin.

Liu, who came to international acclaim after winning the Bronze Medal and Best Mazurka Prize at the 17th International Fryderyk Chopin Competition in Warsaw, Poland, in 2015, was also awarded the audience prize by the Polish public on Polish National Radio.

Born in Singapore, Liu moved to America when she was eight, where she graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia.

She studied privately at the Music Institute in Chicago and is currently completing a graduate degree at the Juilliard School of Music in New York.

Dr Esthea Kruger, piano lecturer at UCT who is presenting Liu in a master class on Wednesday September 21, says she is an exceptional young pianist.

“In a world where it is often the loudest and fastest interpretations that impress, Kate Liu sets herself apart by her extraordinarily sensitive and honest way of communicating the music to her audiences. Her concert in Cape Town is sure to be a magical experience.”

Tickets for the recital are R300 and R200 for seniors. Book through Webtickets.
