Kronendal Music Academy (KMA) has been invited to take part in the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival in July.
The event, started in 1978, has grown into a world-class collaboration of musicians.
“KMA is extremely honoured to be a part of this tradition,” said KMA founder Dwyn Griesel.
“Performing opportunities whilst we are there create a unique situation in which to expand future funding possibilities for this multi-award-winning music academy. 2018 marks Mandela’s centenary, and it is also the Year Of The Youth in Scotland, so for our young musicians it is a double whammy.”
For almost all the youngsters, it will not only be their first time abroad but also their first trip on an aeroplane.
Some of the highlights of their trip will be the Festival Mardi Gras, playing in Glasgow, and a performance at the legendary Ronnie Scots in London.
Funding-dependent, there is a possibility of two of South Africa’s leading musicians accompanying the school: Dizu Plaatjies on African instruments and McCoy Mrubata on saxophone. For more information, contact Gwyn Griesel on dwynne@telkomsa.net.
