The Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) is hosting a community gala concert, under the direction of Brandon Phillips, on Sunday February 17 at the Artscape Opera, at 6pm.
Louis Heyneman, CEO of the CPO, says last year’s debut gala concert was a success. “We are looking forward to a repeat of the packed Artscape Opera House standing up and shouting for more as they heard what a symphony orchestra can do to enhance the brilliance of these young artists.”
On the line-up this year, and performing with a symphony orchestra for the first time, are Idols winners Yanga Sobetwa and Thato Makape who will sing alone as well as in duet.
There will also be performances by Jazzart, Township Opera, singers Karin Kortje and Elizabeth du Toit, keyboard artist Camillo Lombard and saxophonist Donvino Prins. Among the young musicians performing will be the Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Orchestra’s concertmaster, Jordan Brooks. Tickets cost from R100 to R160. Book through Artscape Dial-A-Seat on 021 421 7695.
